I am dedicated to building community through arts, culture, and education.

To do that, you and I must build communities in which arts, culture, and education can thrive. And, in tandem, we must also build a non-profit sector prepared to embrace its communities. In both cases, we have room to grow.

My website is designed to help facilitate a national conversation about these ideas through essays, research, and perspective grounded in one person’s 20+ years of experience in pursuit of these priorities. All thoughts reflected here are my own.

If your organization is committed to those priorities as well, I’m here to help you achieve those goals. My consulting services are tailored to build your capacity to increase civic impact, to improve operational and strategic infrastructure, and to grow revenue through audience-building and philanthropy.

Essays

The essays on this site sit at the intersection of a number of topics: the arts, leadership, marketing, technology, philanthropy… and yes, a little bit on travel, what I’m reading, and St. Louis - my home for the last 8 years.

Why ‘in the Key of Gf’?

Well, my last name is Gfaller. Suffice it to say, it’s an unusual name. There’s a surface explanation to my name (“it’s easier if you just pretend the G is silent”), but if you dig deeper there’s a lot more to it. I guess you could say that having an unusual name like that has always informed my perspective just a little. It’s reminded me that, in the case of most things, you may be able to get an easy explanation that gives you the gist of what you think you might need. But, if you dig a little deeper into the heart of the matter, you’ll find something much more nuanced, substantial, and authentic that can take your understanding - and your results - to an entirely different level.
